Sun Directed's History

Michael and Heather Shadow established Sun Directed in 2008 at their residence, aiming to enhance building efficiency and install geothermal heating systems. They initially planned to integrate solar energy by 2013. However, in the spring of 2009, Michael embarked on his solar training. By that summer, after designing and installing a solar electric system for their home, the Shadows realized that solar energy couldn't be postponed. Motivated to bring solar power to their Pennsylvania community, Sun Directed accelerated their solar initiatives.

Solar quickly became so popular that by the fall of 2009 Michael and his team had installed, and third-party-inspected, enough solar power systems to qualify to take the NABCEP Solar PV Installer Certification Exam. We are proud to say that Michael is one of the longest certified solar installers in Pennsylvania.  Collectively, the Sun Directed team has almost 50 years of experience managing, designing, and installing solar energy systems.

In 2013, Sun Directed relocated from their home to an office building in downtown Bellefonte as their business expanded. By March 2017, they moved once more to a larger facility with a warehouse in State College, near the Nittany Mall. As they continued to grow, they outgrew this space as well and, in the fall of 2024, transitioned to an even larger facility at the Titan Energy Park on Axemann Road in Bellefonte.
